Union Berlin was promoted to the Bundesliga for the first time in 2019 but the team can qualify for Champions League football next season. Union Berlin had an impressive start to the current season, winning 13 of their first 20 Bundesliga games, but they have slowed down recently, winning only two of their previous eight league games.

Following a four-game losing streak in February and March, Union defeated Eintracht Frankfurt and Stuttgart before falling to Borussia Dortmund, and last weekend they drew with relegation-threatened VfL Bochum. Union has shown they have what it takes to end the season on a strong note, despite the team's recent inconsistency. 

The red card to Paul Jaeckel in the game against Bochum will keep him out of this week's game. Andras Schafer is suffering from a foot ailment.
