Troyes vs Strasbourg Prediction, Betting Tips & Odds │21 MAY, 2023

On Sunday, Strasbourg will play already-relegated Troyes at the Stade de l'Aube in an effort to maintain their Ligue 1 position. The guests are going for their third straight-away victory, while the hosts haven't won at home since August.

After a challenging season, the host is demoted from the top division. Troyes' most recent league match ended in a loss against Stade Rennais, and they prolonged their losing streak against Les Rennais by giving up three of those goals in a nine-minute span in the second half. With 22 points, Troyes is ranked 19th in the standings. Despite having nothing left to play for this season, they will try to turn things around in front of their home crowd.

Strasbourg, meanwhile, is performing well and getting closer to safety. In their most recent match, they defeated Nice, with Le Racing's leading scorer Habib Diallo scoring both goals to bring his league total for the season to 20. With 38 points from 35 games and a five-point cushion over the relegation zone, the visitors are 14th in the league standings.

In this context, expect goals from both side as well as over 2.5 goals

After losing on the road to Rennes last weekend, Troyes, which had an 18-match winless league streak, was relegated and will play in Ligue 2 next season. Troyes knew that a win was necessary to stave off the drop for at least one more week, but they ultimately struggled to contain Rennes' attacking threat.

The head coach of Troyes, which is now ranked 19th in the standings and has already been relegated in six of its eleven Ligue 1 seasons, has admitted that he is already thinking about the upcoming campaign. This is the greatest percentage of any club that has participated in at least 10 seasons in the top flight.

Since defeating Strasbourg in the opposite match in January, Troyes has not won a Ligue 1 game. Troyes has never beaten Strasbourg in back-to-back games in the top division. However, Troyes have gone 15 games in Ligue 1 at home without a victory, the longest active streak among the top five leagues in Europe, so earning all three points on Sunday might be difficult.

Due to a ban, Troyes' leading scorer, Mama Balde, will be absent, and Renaud Ripart and Florian Tardieu will both be sidelined with Achilles problems. Due to their preparations for representing France at the Under-20 World Cup, both winger Wilson Odobert and center back Tanguy Zoukrou are unavailable.

The starting lineup for Troyes might be Gallon, Kohon, Rami, Palmer-Brown, Bruus, Mazou-Sacko, Chavalerin, Larouci, Fage, and Lopes.

Last weekend, Strasbourg extended its winning streak by defeating Nice at home to increase their chances of making it out of the bottom half. After scoring two goals on each side of halftime, Diallo raised his season total for goals in Ligue 1 to 20.

With three games left in the season, Frederic Antonetti's team has won four of their past five league games, which is more victories than in their previous 14 games. As a result, they have moved up to 14th place in the standings, five points above the bottom four.

With Nantes failing to defeat Montpellier at home on Saturday, a victory over Troyes may be enough to ensure their top-flight survival.

The away side has lost all three of their most recent trips to the Stade de l'Aube, and they have only won four of their 17 away games in Ligue 1 this season going into the match on Sunday. They defeated Reims and Nantes in their past two away victories, though.

In terms of Strasbourg's injury list, Eduard Sobol, Gerzino Nyamsi, and Eiji Kawashima are all slated to miss out due to injury, but Alexander Djiku is available after serving a suspension, and the centre-back is anticipated to be reinstated to the starting lineup in place of either Lucas Perrin.  The remainder of Strasourg's squad will likely be unaltered.

Sels, Perrin, Djiku, Le Marchand; Dagba, Sissoko, Sanson, Guilbert; Diarra, Bellegarde; Diallo might be Strasbourg's starting lineup.

In three games leading up to this match, the hosts remain undefeated. In six games leading up to this match, the guests have failed to keep a clean sheet. This season, Troyes has the fewest victories in Ligue 1 with just one home league victory. The second-highest total among clubs in the bottom half of Ligue 1 this season is 48 goals scored by Strasbourg. The home team has allowed 77 goals this season, which is the joint-worst total in the top level.

Troyes has not won in 19 games in all competitions and is currently on a three-game losing streak. They have yet to win at home this season, so they could struggle here. Meanwhile, Strasbourg has won four of their previous five games and has a streak of two straight victories. Strasbourg is in considerably better shape than Troyes and ought to prevail. Potential scoreline includes 1-2, 1-3, or 1-4.
