In the last four years, Reims has lost only once to Monaco in Ligue 1, although the teams have played eight head-to-head games. The next match will take place on September 18. Bookmakers don't have much faith in Monaco's success after the Europa League setback. Will the visitors be able to recover from the slap from Ferencvaros?
Reims
Reims was far from the most active player on the transfer market in the summer, but this team is exciting to watch. Folarin Balogun has lived up to the management's expectations, scoring in almost every game, and Ito Junya has added to the Red and White's sharpness of attack. The team has only 6 points in just seven league rounds and one win. Now, they are only 16th in the standings. Compared to the last match, Reims has one more severe loss: Alexis Flips won't play due to disqualification. Azor Matusiva and Thomas Foket, who played more than 20 games for Reims last season, also remain out of the squad. Kai Sircheis is also on injured reserve, and the team will be fine without him.
In the last round of the French championship, they lost away to Toulouse (0:1). They had little success offensively, although they had slightly more possession and took 11 shots on goal. The Red and Whites could have conceded two or three goals before Flips was sent off, and the penalty shootout became more difficult.
Monaco
The Monegasques have more or less recovered from a poor start to the championship, winning their last two games and moving up to the seventh place. Monaco is in 6th place on xG and could well have scored a goal or two more than their current ten goals. Caio Henrique, with four assists, is one of the best in Ligue 1, second only to Lionel Messi and Neymar. The main complaints right now are in defense. In addition to Volland, Monaco has Myron Boadu and Willem Geubbels.
The team beat Lyon 2:1 at home in the last Ligue 1 fixture. In the 1st half, the teams could have already exchanged goals. All the goals were scored after the break, with Guillermo Maripan and Benoit Badiashile scoring for Monaco and Caio Henrique assisting his teammates twice. The Monegasque defense made many mistakes, and the team could have conceded 2-3 goals. The Europa League game against Ferencvarosi was far less impressive. Monaco had few chances to score, with their opponents conceding nothing. The result was 0:1 in favor of the Hungarian club.
Expert Betting Tips
Monaco is still good offensively, although they looked even better with Kevin Volland in the starting line-up. It was the Monegasques who created the most problems for PSG. They could have scored 2-3 goals against the Parisians but ended up with a draw. Against Lyon, they also did a lot of good work, but their defensive problems were alarming. Against Toulouse, Reims did not look very lively, but they could do better at home. In the game with Lens (1:1), the Red and Whites could have reached the total over. The match between Reims and Monaco should be a productive one.
