The Welsh team did not approach the tournament in Qatar in the best possible mood. The Red Dragons failed in their last UEFA Nations League tie, dropping just one point from six games to relegate from Division A to the league's second-strongest division. Furthermore, the Welsh stars have been off the radar of the top championships of late, with Gareth Bale playing very rarely even in the MLS. Iran has become accustomed to making regular appearances in the World Cup final stages in recent years. Before the start of the World Cup 2022, Carlos Queiroz's charges played a couple of friendly matches in which they gave mixed performances: beginning with a 1-0 victory over Nicaragua and then a 0-2 defeat by Tunisia.
Already in the opening group stage of the Mundial, the Iranians were to face the main group favourite - England. Despite an injury to their starting goalkeeper as early as 20 minutes into the match, the Persian leopards kept a good grip on the rival's attacks but conceded three goals in a row after 35 minutes. In the second half, the Iranians conceded three more times and risked the biggest defeat in their history, but Mehdi Taremi's double avoided that setback. Nevertheless, it was a 2-6 defeat.

Expert Betting Tips
Iran was widely expected to be the underdog in Group B at the start of the World Cup, with Wales expected to be in a close contest with the Americans for a second playoff spot. The results from the first leg of the 2022 World Cup only convinced us that the initial expectation was correct. In the coming contest, too, the Red Dragons can justifiably consider themselves favourites, with their more balanced and skilled squad. Obviously, the Welsh side's recent setbacks haven't really mattered, as they've come into the World Cup in good form.
The encounter between the national teams of Wales and Iran can hardly be regarded as a fight of direct rivals for a place in the playoffs, after all the chances of the Persian leopards on the final success are very small. That said, the Iranians showed in their opening game that they can attack and score productively even against a pragmatic English side, let alone the Welsh, who have conceded in their last six games in a row.
The most likely outcome of this match is for Iran to win because of their determination. But I believe in 2:1 for Wales. Gareth Bale’s confidence is very high, and he will try to score more goals.
