After achieving success in the National League last season, Wrexham aims to secure back-to-back promotions. Currently, they have amassed 37 points from 20 matches, giving them a one-point advantage over the teams just below the top three positions. However, they had to temporarily halt their promotion campaign in the last couple of matches to focus on consecutive cup games. They kicked off with an impressive 3-0 win against Yeovil Town from the sixth-tier, securing their place in the FA Cup third round. Unfortunately, they were unable to replicate this triumph in their recent EFL Trophy match against Burton Albion, resulting in a 3-2 defeat on their home ground. Following this loss, Wrexham had 10 days to reflect on their performance as their away league fixture against Forest Green Rovers was canceled due to a waterlogged pitch. Despite not playing a league game since November, Wrexham enters the upcoming weekend in outstanding form, having only lost one of their previous 11 fourth-tier matches (winning six and drawing four).
Wrexham Predicted Lineup
Howard; Mendy, Tozer, Boyle, O'Connor, McClean; Evans, Cannon, Lee; Palmer, Mullin
Colchester United form
Colchester, on the other hand, will travel to Wales with the hope of securing their first win in a competitive match since defeating Peterborough United in the EFL Trophy on November 21. However, they have experienced a series of defeats in their recent games, including a 4-0 loss to West Ham United Under-21s in the EFL Trophy. Last weekend, they suffered a narrow 2-1 loss to Crawley Town, leaving them just five points ahead of Forest Green who are in the 23rd position and have two extra games to play.
Colchester's defense has been struggling this season, conceding a total of 42 goals in 21 league matches - the highest number in the fourth tier. In order to move away from the relegation zone, manager Matthew Etherington will need to find a way to strengthen his team's defense. Unfortunately, they have a tendency to concede goals in the late stages of matches, letting in 14 goals in the final 15 minutes - a record no other team in the league has surpassed, with only Swindon Town matching that figure.
Colchester United Predicted Lineup
Goodman; Mitchell, Kelleher, Egbo; Greenridge, McGeehan, Read, Jay, Fevrier; Taylor, Akinde
