Portsmouth will be looking to climb the table in the Championship when they restart their season this Saturday. At present, from the first 14 league matches, Portsmouth have managed only nine points coming after one win and seven losses and enter this Saturday's game under some pressure, with a four-game winless streak to end and to get going again.
They were able to pick up just one win all season, this was against Queens Park Rangers in October, after that, they saw a run of consecutive losses against Cardiff City and Sheffield Wednesday and then a draw against Hull City in their last game. A loss against Plymouth Argyle has seen them stand just one point from relegation and six from safety.
The worst home record in the league, and having conceded more goals than any other side so far, Portsmouth will welcome the chance to get back on track to begin their climb up the table with victory at Fratton Park on Saturday.
Portsmouth Predicted Lineup
Schmid; Williams, Poole, McIntyre, Ogilvie; Potts, Pack; Ritchie, Lang, Murphy; O'Mahony
Preston North End Form
Their visitors will also seek to end an uncomfortable run of results going into the weekend, in a bid to create some breathing space above the teams currently at the wrong end of the table. Preston North End under Ryan Lowe and new manager Paul Heckingbottom has picked up 15 points from their opening 14 games of this Championship season. Only three of those have proved to be wins for the Lancashire side. In turn, however, after having two victories bracket a draw against Burnley in October, Lancashire's last four games have been without a victory. Although they managed a draw with Norwich City and Plymouth Argyle, they suffered a 3-1 loss at the hands of Bristol City last weekend and played to a goalless draw against league leaders Sunderland in their last match. Preston North End are only currently above Plymouth Argyle in 22nd place on goal difference and will want to make up ground on the remainder of the league with a win at next away fixture.
Preston North End Predicted Starting Line Up
Woodman; Storey, Whatmough, Hughes; Potts, Frokjaer-Jensen, Whiteman, McCann, Kesler-Hayden; Riis, Greenwood
Portsmouth vs Preston North End Expert Prediction
Saturday's encounter at Fratton Park will likely be a closely contested battle as both teams seek to win the three points needed to up their order in the Championship lower rungs. The vulnerableness of the home defense puts us in a stand to predict that Paul Heckingbottom's team is going to sit right on their fourth league win of the season.
