Portsmouth have had a testing baptism to their first season in the Championship since 2011-12, posting four draws and four losses in their first eight games. But last weekend they earned a point by holding Sheffield United goalless, and Wednesday did little for the general morale - with a demoralizing defeat 6-1 at Stoke City.
Mark O'Mahony gave Portsmouth a lead they failed to maintain when he scored their first, even after Tom Cannon for Stoke City had levelled. At halftime Stoke were 3-1 up courtesy of goals from Cannon and Sam Gallagher. The second half ended with three quick goals to Portsmouth, two of which were from Cannon, making it a fourth loss in five and seeing them relegated in the process.
As they look to bounce back, Portsmouth can take some assurance from a comparable confidence-building victory over Oxford this term as Callum Lang and Christian Saydee netted in a 2-1 win at Fratton Park in March.

Oxford United Form
While rivals are not satisfied with the points they have gathered thus far, Oxford is content with the good start as they climbed into League One after a triumph in the play-off. Currently placed mid-table, they are four points clear of the relegation zone with eight league matches to its credit - three wins, two draws, and three losses. Oxford are convinced by this latest situation. Oxford however might not be happy with their current performance as they failed to win the last of their three consecutive matches. Though they were beaten 2-1 by Bristol City, Des Buckingham's team could get a draw in the other two games played against Burnley and Luton Town. The U's came from two goals down against Luton to earn a 2-2 draw. Tyler Goodrham and Ruben Rodrigues were the happy scorers. The victory ended a three-match away Championship losing streak, and they will look to build on that here by earning their first win of the season away from home.

Portsmouth vs Oxford United Expert Prediction
Portsmouth will be under pressure to record their first win of the season before the international break, but we believe they will be okay with a draw at Oxford as the latter had two recent matches draw each.
