Plymouth Argyle, under the management of Steven Schumacher, achieved a remarkable 100 points to win League One in their previous season. Their goal for this season was to impress in England's second tier, the Championship, after their last appearance in 2010. They started off strong with a win against Huddersfield Town and a goalless draw against Watford, giving them four points from two matches. However, their performance has been inconsistent since then, only earning three more points in their last five games. Their first defeat came at home against Southampton, followed by another loss against Birmingham City. They did manage to end the first half of the season with a victory, defeating Blackburn Rovers 3-0. After the international break, they faced Preston North End and suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat, followed by a heavy 4-1 loss against Bristol City. While their current tally of seven points is not yet alarming, Schumacher's team will surely be disappointed with their recent form and will be aiming to turn things around in their upcoming match in order to climb up the division and secure a third victory of the season.

Meanwhile, the visitors are heading south looking to recover from their own defeat in the middle of the week, following a strong start to their league campaign and promotion aspirations under the leadership of David Wagner. In contrast to their disappointing 13th-place finish last season, the Canaries have set out to compete at the top of England's second division this year. They began impressively, earning 10 points from their first four matches. They secured an opening day victory over Hull City, followed by a thrilling 4-4 draw away at newly-relegated Southampton, and comprehensive victories over Millwall and Huddersfield Town by scores of 3-1 and 4-0 respectively. Hoping to maintain their undefeated start and end the international break on a positive note, Wagner's team travelled to Rotherham United but suffered their first loss of the season, falling 2-1 even though Christian Fassnacht managed to find the back of the net early in the second half. However, they quickly rebounded with a 1-0 win over Stoke City thanks to a goal from Jack Stacey just before halftime. With 13 points from their first six matches, Norwich find themselves back among the top contenders in the league. Despite their recent defeat against Leicester City, they remain confident in their performance, boasting one of the best attacking records in the league and just two losses, with one of them coming against a strong Leicester side. They are now focused on bouncing back as they visit Home Park on Saturday, aiming to close the gap on the top three teams if other results work in their favor.
