English Championship: Game Week 7
Stadium: Home Park
27th September 2024
Plymouth Argyle will welcome Luton Town at Home Park in Game Week 7 of the English Championship. Plymouth aiming to get out of relegation zone. Who will come out on top after 90 minutes?
Plymouth Argyle current form
When Plymouth were thrashed 5-1 by Sheffield Wednesday during the opening weekend, Neil Harris and Wayne Rooney were going to receive heavy flak as always. However, it is hard to fault the Manchester United and England legend too much over the past six weeks in the circumstances - despite Plymouth's precarious position being only one point clear of the relegation zone. Their biggest Championship loss since that game at Hillsborough has been 1-0: they lost 1-0 at West Bromwich Albion last weekend. They also managed a 3-2 victory against Sunderland, who had allowed just one goal in the other five matches.
Although Plymouth Argyle have found back of the net only in one of the last four matches, the Home Park fans are growing in optimism for the next game.
Plymouth Argyle Expected Starting Lineup
Grimshaw; Edwards, Szucs, Gibson, Mumba; Randell; Whittaker, Gyabi, Forshaw, Cissoko; Hardie
Luton Town Form
Luton manager Rob Edwards might have expected his team to be well and truly into the top half of the table. It required a couple of straight wins to do just that and reach 15th place. His players earned just one point from their last four games before the September break, and Edwards was glad for the extra time on the training ground to iron out any problems.
Perched on two on the bounce victories over Millwall and Sheffield Wednesday, Luton is set for an outstanding promotion chance, although the attacking game is something they must sort out fast after scoring only five in six matches.
Luton Town Expected XI
Kaminski; Burke, McGuinness, Mengi; Walters, Walsh, Nakamba, Doughty; Morris, Chong; Adebayo
Plymouth Argyle vs Luton Town Expert Tips
Given that there are no fitness problems, Rooney might include the same Plymouth XI that emerged with the intent to get something from their last match at The Hawthorns. Rami Al Hajj will be looking to play in the starting XI since joining in August and might replace Adam Forshaw or Adam Randell in midfield. Callum Wright, Mustapha Bundu, and Michael Obafemi add other options up front.
There is still a great chance that Luton's Edwards might change the team in order to achieve the win at Sheffield Wednesday, possibly rotating the squad. Carlton Morris would definitely be expected to return instead of Tahith Chong or Jordan Clark. Zack Nelson might also get a start, and Victor Moses will have to wait for his opportunity after having been used as a substitute last time.
That is to say, Plymouth appears to be getting back on course slowly with Rooney in charge, so they can't be ruled out entirely. Luton appears to be pulling out of the nosedive they are in; therefore, we would predict a thrilling win for Edwards' side.
