At various points during the last season, some expected Ipswich Town and Sheffield Wednesday to challenge Plymouth for an automatic promotion spot in League One. However, it was Plymouth that excelled, amassing 101 points from 46 games and securing a place in the second tier.
Following that success, Steven Schumacher has made some strategic moves in the transfer market, including bringing back last season's key loanees Bali Mumba and Finn Azaz, along with six other new signings at Home Park.
Morgan Whittaker, who had been recalled by Swansea City in January, is also back at Plymouth, and Schumacher now has a squad capable of maintaining their position in this division.
Although Argyle had a positive pre-season overall, their recent 3-1 loss to Swindon Town was not the ideal preparation for what could potentially be an important fixture later in the season.
Plymouth Argyle Predicted Lineup
Hazard; Kesler-Hayden, Scarr, Gibson, Mumba; Edwards, Randell, Wright; Whittaker, Hardie, Miller
Huddersfield Town Form
Neil Warnock had initially planned to retire from management after successfully keeping Huddersfield in the Championship during the 2022-23 season. However, the experienced manager has been enticed back to the dugout to lead Huddersfield for a more comfortable campaign this time around.
Despite finishing nine points above the relegation zone, Huddersfield's safety was achieved through a late surge of wins and points deductions for their rivals.
So far, there have been limited senior additions to the squad, with experienced goalkeeper Chris Maxwell and Stoke City defender Tom Edwards being brought to the John Smith's Stadium.
Nevertheless, Warnock may find comfort in the team's relative continuity. Huddersfield concluded their pre-season with victories over Stockport County and Heerenveen, not conceding any goals, as they prepare to face one of Warnock's former clubs.
Huddersfield Town possible lineup
Nicholls; Edmonds-Green, Pearson, Helik; Edwards, Diarra, Kasumu; Ruffels; Thomas, Ward, Jackson
Plymouth Argyle vs Huddersfield Town Expert Tips
Plymouth embarks on a new journey in the EFL Championship, but considering it's their first match in the second tier in 13 years, they might require some adjustment time to adapt to their new environment. Huddersfield, on the other hand, has the potential to hand them an opening-day defeat. The game is most likely to end in a tie with under 2.5 goals scored.
