In his first Championship start since Gary Rowett was sacked and Joe Edwards was appointed as manager, 18-year-old Romain Esse scored his second goal of the season to give Millwall the lead against Coventry at the Coventry Building Society Arena on Sunday. However, Millwall once again failed to hold onto their advantage and dropped points. In the second half, Coventry dominated the game and Haji Wright scored two impressive goals, resulting in Millwall losing four of their last five games in the Championship. They have only gained one point during this period. Despite three consecutive victories during the festive period, Millwall's form has taken a turn for the worse and they are now in 18th place in the league, just four points above 22nd-placed Queens Park Rangers. Last season, under Rowett, players like Tom Bradshaw and Zian Flemming were successful in scoring goals, but they have struggled to replicate that form this season. As a result, Millwall brought in attackers Adam Mayor from League Two team Morecambe and Michael Obafemi from Premier League side Burnley during the January transfer window. In the 2022-23 season, Millwall had a strong home record, winning 17 out of 23 matches at The Den. However, this season, they have already lost seven games at home, only winning four out of 15 matches.
Millwall Predicted Lineup
Sarkic; Tanganga, Harding, Cooper; McNamara, Honeyman, De Norre, Bryan; Esse, Flemming, Obafemi
Ipswich Town form
Ipswich's recent form in the Championship has been disappointing, with them winning only one of their last nine matches. They faced West Brom in their most recent game and managed to salvage a 2-2 draw. It could have been a worse outcome for Ipswich, as they were trailing in the final moments of the match. West Brom took the lead twice in the game, with goals from Tom Fellows and John Swift. However, Ipswich showed resilience and equalized through Nathan Broadhead and Omari Hutchinson in the 46th and 93rd minute respectively. A late goal from Nathan Broadhead prevented Ipswich from enduring their third consecutive defeat across all competitions since August 2021. During that previous period, they lost to Newport County, Burton Albion, and Cheltenham Town within eight days. Ipswich currently sits in fourth place in the Championship standings, trailing behind Leicester City, Southampton, and Leeds United. Due to their recent poor form, they are now four points away from the top two positions. Ipswich has struggled in their last four away matches in the second tier and suffered a defeat in a thrilling five-goal encounter against Preston North End on February 3, despite Kieffer Moore scoring two goals on his debut.
Ipswich Town Predicted Lineup
Hladky; Clarke; Woolfenden, Edmundson, Davis; Morsy, Luongo, Burns, Chaplin, Broadhead; Moore
