Since recently-relegated Burnley's defeats in successive games against Sunderland and Premier League Wolverhampton Wanderers toward the end of August, they managed to string together five consecutive league Championship games without a loss. Consequently, that greatly improved their chances of making an easy return to the top flight. Burnley came out on top of a dismal Plymouth side as an inept away team effort by Wayne Rooney's outfit at Turf Moor could hardly have been worse. A first-half penalty from Josh Brownhill proved the difference.
Ahead of the international break for October, Scott Parker's side is second in the Championship table. They have a one-point distance from the third-placed Sheffield United and are a point shy of league leaders Sunderland, who, under Regis Le Bris, have gone like clockwork so far. Burnley has conceded only four goals in eight games, putting them amongst the best defensive sides in the division, behind Sheffield United.
First and foremost, Burnley hasn't been clinical enough in front of goal as only Brownhill and Luca Koleosho have netted two or more goals so far in league action. Burnley, however has gone well at home Turf Moor but has gone four league games without defeat on the bounce, and defeated Cardiff City, Portsmouth, and Plymouth on the way.
Burnley Predicted XI
Trafford; Humphreys, Egan-Riley, Esteve, Pires; Cullen, Brownhill; Koleosho, Hannibal, Anthony; Foster
Preston North End Recent Form
With Preston North End currently undergoing a disappointing run of four games without a win in the Championship, a major victory would have come in the midweek fixtures against Watford, beaten 3-0 by Preston. The victory came after a goalless first half but was sealed by Milutin Osmajic and Ali McCann with their goals and is the shift that moved Preston out of the relegation zone and up to 21st place in the league standings. The horrible attacking form - seven goals in eight matches so far - has not been showcased yet, but boss Paul Heckingbottom has quickly proved himself to be a good change since taking over.
Preston North End Predicted Starting XI
Woodman; Potts, Lindsay, Storey, Hughes; Whiteman, McCann, Thordarson, Frokjaer-Jensen, Brady; Osmajic
Burnley vs Preston North End Expert Predictions
Still unbeaten in the Championship at Turf Moor this term, a win for Burnley against another Lancashire derby opponent on Saturday is likely. Preston has yet to register an away win in the 2024-25 season, and it looks unlikely they will do so against a solid promotion challenger such as Burnley on Saturday afternoon.
