Fluminense vs Atlético-MG
Stadium: Kleber Andrade, Cariacica
04.05.2024, 22:00
This match between Fluminense and Atlético Mineiro is the most eagerly awaited in Brasileirão Round 5. Both teams are in the second tier of title contenders this year, just behind Palmeiras and Flamengo, the main favorites to win the Série A. Fluminense won the Copa Libertadores last season but haven't lifted the Brasileirão trophy since 2012. The Cariocas have made a poor start to this year's edition and must win urgently. Atlético was the champion for the last time in 2021 and is currently the Brazilian team with the best form. For financial reasons, the match will be staged in Cariacica, roughly 500 km from Rio de Janeiro and Belo Horizonte.

In Cariacica, the Tricolor beat the Série C team Sampaio Corrêa by 2-0 in the first leg of the Copa do Brasil third round. The victory over the Maranhão side was a must after the heavy 3-0 defeat against Corinthians in the last game of the Brasileirão. Fernando Diniz brought on several players who usually are substitutes, and they did their job well. In 16th place with four points, the Cariocas are under pressure to beat the Mineiros, who are in second place with eight points.
Atlético-MG
The Rooster also won its Copa do Brasil match 2-0. It was at home to Sport Recife from the Série B, but Atlético fielded its best team, unlike Fluminense. Zaracho and Arana scored the goals for the Miners, who picked up their fourth win in a row. Last year's game at the Maracanã ended 1-1 on Scolari's debut as coach. This time, the Belo Horizonte side will head into the game full of confidence and hope to win. Atlético is very dangerous in attack and can wreak havoc on Fluminense's defense, which has shown some problems this year.
Expert Betting Tips
Fluminense's season has been below expectations so far. Fernando Diniz's side was eliminated in the semi-finals of the Campeonato Carioca by Flamengo without scoring a single goal in the two legs. Despite topping Copa Libertadores Group A, the Cariocas have only won one of their three games. In the Brasileirão, the Tricolor have four points out of a possible 12 and are under pressure ahead of their next game against Atlético, which will not be held at the Maracanã. The Miners, on the other hand, are in great form and are winning with style. On a good day, Fluminense could win, of course, but it would be illogical to bet against a team that is playing so well as Atlético Mineiro. My bet will be a Double Chance in favor of Atlético-MG with a maximum of three goals scored.
