One of the most keenly awaited derbies of the season takes place on the 13th round of the Torneo Betano 2025 when Gimnasia La Plata face city rivals Estudiantes. The teams are in decent form going into the game since each of the sides lost very closely last time out in their respective affairs.

Gimnasia arrive into their derby off a 0-2 defeat away to Talleres Córdoba. Faithless in front of the goal, the team only mustered a single chance on target, after featuring more possession and 18 shots of their own. The team also conceded a goal in each half, despite defensive lapses. Gimnasia pushed for an equalizer in the second half but were lacking with the final piece of the puzzle in the final third of the pitch. It was clear the attack was inefficient as there was 1.10 expected goals (xG) but no shots on goal. If they are to trouble Estudiantes in the derby, however, they will need to drastically improve their end product.
Estudiantes (LLWLD)
On the other hand, Estudiantes arrives to this showdown following an extremely dissapointing defeat, losing 0:1 to Belgrano at home. In possession, the team had 65% possession and shot 14 to 7 against, for xG of 1.17. But while wastefulness in front of goal and a lack of cutting edge did threaten to cost them the victory, Belgrano stole it with a single goal, into the break. However, the setback was ruined in Estudiantes’ build-up play, though they created their fair share of dangerous situations, particularly in the first part of the game. And they may hold the key to breaking down a Gimnasia reeling from having just three defenders available to defend against them after having promoted numerous midfielders between that back line.
Expert Betting Tips
Expect this one to be of an intense nature as local pride is at hand. Both Estudiantes and Gimnasia seem more coherent and effective in possession, but Gimnasia’s home ground and a need to come back in front of their fans makes that game intriguing. The attacking inefficiency shown by Gimnasia and the fact that Estudiantes have managed to perform so well in matches without scoring despite their recent goals and injury problems may yet make the visitors contest more successful. While there are certainly stages where the players could get into a decent rhythm, this is likely to be little more than a hard fight for a win and very little between chances — it will be difficult.
