Team JD Gaming in 2021 blew every tournament they participated in. After a good year in 2020, the following year, the organization could only boast the LPL Spring Split, and that was the 5-6th place, but the Summer Championship was the worst ever - 12th place, and past even the playoff stage and of course, the World Championship was out of the question.
Before the start of this LPL Spring Split 2022, the team played in the Demacia Cup 2021 pre-season tournament and lost 4 out of 4 games to drop out without even making the playoffs.
The main transfer was the move of Hope from world champions EDward Gaming to the ADC position. After a year's break, Korean coach Homme, who led JD Gaming to Chinese championship medals in 2020 and a good result (5-6) at the 2020 World Cup, returned to the organization. Otherwise, new young blood has joined the team, renewing almost the entirety of last year's squad, including JD Gaming saying goodbye to the captain as well. This squad needs time for chemistry, so I do not see them fighting for the championship. They should get into the playoffs... And the start against the world champions is not the most desirable opponent at the start.
EDward Gaming: How will the champions start the new season?
EDward Gaming returned to the top of the Chinese league in 2021, finishing 3rd in the 2021 LPL Spring Split, losing 2-3 to outright spring champions Royal Never Give Up. There were no changes to the team before the summer split, and in the summer of 2021, they became champions of China, defeating FunPlus Phoenix 3-1 in the final to win their first LPL title since the 2017 summer split and earn a direct invite to Worlds 2021. At the Worlds, EDward Gaming finished second in their group with a 4-2 result, losing one game each to T1 and 100 Thieves. Making the playoffs, EDward Gaming faced Royal Never Give Up, who they managed to defeat 3-2. With another 3-2 victory over Gen.G Esports in the semi-finals, they faced DAMWON Gaming in the final. After losing 1-2, they managed to win the final two maps and sensationally win their first-ever League of Legends World Championship, taking the championship trophy back to China.
After this resounding victory, the organization decided not to sign any new players. The only changes were JunJia the forester leaving for Rare Atom and one of the CorGi trainers leaving the team. And I already mentioned Hope has moved to JD Gaming. But all the players who left the team are far from the core roster, so the organization should not notice the loss of fighters.
