G2.iG is one of three Chinese teams heading to The International 2024. Every year, the number of Dota 2 players in China is decreasing as mobile gaming takes over the region. This creates challenges for Chinese organizations trying to find new talent. Even big teams like Invictus Gaming, with a rich history and wins, are facing difficulties. After a disappointing season in 2023, iG were forced to bring in three Malaysian players and partnered with German organization G2 Esports, which led to the creation of the G2.iG team. With the new squad, the team has performed well, but is still unable to achieve consistent wins on the international stage.
Despite the lack of meaningful trophies this year, G2.iG have strong team chemistry and flexibility in choosing heroes, which allows them to remain competitive. Although the three players are from Malaysia, they all speak fluent Chinese, eliminating communication problems. The main challenge for the team is adapting to new patches and metas, which sometimes puts them at a disadvantage. Ahead of The International 2024, G2.iG are actively working on unique strategies and preparing for the tournament where they hope to showcase their strength and succeed on the world stage.
Talon Esports
Ex-players Talon Esports, who were the best team in the region last year, faced a setback at TI12, finishing 9th-12th and losing their entire squad. Most of Talon's former players moved to the Aurora team, while Talon had to start from scratch. They picked up players for a few months and in early 2024, experienced coach Johan "pieliedie" Åström joined them. Under his guidance, the young team qualified for TI13 with an important victory over Aurora.
Talon's roster includes young and promising players such as 21-year-old kerry Akashi and 19-year-old offliner Ws. These players give the team a freshness and aggressive style of play that makes them unpredictable to opponents. Despite little experience, the team is not afraid to experiment and is ready to surprise with unconventional strategies. Two weeks before the start of TI13 Talon are actively testing new heroes, preparing for the tournament, where they will be one of the main “dark horses”. The competition with Aurora and the desire to prove themselves on the biggest stage make their story especially exciting.

The Asian lineup, although not big names, is capable of upsetting teams like G2.iG, so don't write off the "dark horse" from Southeast Asia.
