FlyQuest is a dominant team from Australia. The new dexter team surprised everyone at IEM Chengdu 2024 when they beat Cloud9 and took 7th-8th place. Then the Aussies entered the ESL Pro League Season 19 playoffs and finished 9-12th, and fell a few rounds short of the top eight. The successful results in April and May allowed FlyQuest to climb into the top 20 of HLTV, but it was a one-time jump.
The Aussies' success was due to a combination of factors. Firstly, dexter joined the team, he was a former Fnatic ingame leader and also played together with ropz and frozen in MOUZ. dexter is now passing the experience gained in the top teams to his teammates. And then there's Liazz, who was in the top 4 of the majors in Berlin with jks, playing for Renegades. Secondly, a new generation of players have grown up in Australia with good potential in CS2. INS played very well in Malta, aliStair and Vexite are not stewing in tough matches. The average age of the squad is close to 26, but the Aussies have made their first high level appearance in this poster and still have room to grow.
The MongolZ had a similar story of development - the Mongols first snatched one sensational win at a time, then learnt how to make the playoffs, and are now winning tournaments at the dash-2 level. FlyQuest repeats the way of their colleagues from Asia, only the Australians have more initial resources and potential.
BIG
BIG had enough HLTV ranking points to get an invite to the Play-in IEM Katowice 2024. It's always crucial for the German team to compete at their home tournament, but for the past two years they have failed to qualify for the main stage. BIG rarely appears at Dash 1 tournaments, although during the Coronavirus era it was in the top 10 of HLTV and claimed victories. A lot of water has passed since then, and the competition has grown tremendously.
In 2024 tabseN teamed up with syrsoN again, left the best player from the academy Krimbo, got another German JDC. The fifth player in BIG came rigoN from Guild Eagles. On paper, the team has strengthened, sheltered all the pupils, and gathered the elite of German Counter-Strike. In practice, the team has discipline, but no synergy or in-game communication yet. In teams that rely on the team structure of the game, each player individually is important. And now rigoN is just adapting, Krimbo and syrsoN are not in shape at all and are not doing the damage they need to do, and the team relies on JDC and tabseN.
But there is one solid argument in favour of the German team - no matter what form the team is in, they always give a tough fight. In rare cases, BIG loses in a landslide, and their opponents have to sweat a lot. In series with the world's top-10, the Germans can take the favourites into overtime or drag the outcome of the card to the last rounds. So never underestimate tabseN and company.
Expert Betting Tips
BIG has won FlyQuest once before in Dallas. The Aussies frayed the nerves of the Germans on the second map, nearly taking the series to a third map. We say FlyQuest is capable of upsetting someone in the future, perhaps even in Cologne, but it's unlikely to be BIG. The Germans win matches thanks to tactics and discipline, and will not play with FlyQuest relaxed.
