Evil Geniuses, abbreviated to EG, is one of the oldest American professional gaming organizations, founded in 1999. Evil Geniuses formed in 1999 as a Quake team and made it to League of Legends in 2013. The organization played 2 splits in the EU LCS before they moved to North America in 2014. When getting troubles in North America, Evil Geniuses announced they were leaving League of Legends and sold their place to Winterfox. In 2019, EG returned to the NA LCS with the acquisition of the Echo Fox franchise slot, bringing the brand back after a 5-year hiatus. They became champions for the first time in the spring LCS 2022 season. Building on their potential in the summer of 2021, Evil Geniuses took a midlaner Jojopyun from academy to replace Jiizuke, and Vulcan was acquired from Cloud9 to replace Svenskeren. Inspired, formerly of Rogue in Europe, joined the team as the new jungler. With only two members left on the Summer 2021 roster, Evil Geniuses attracted attention at the Lock-In 2022 tournament, going undefeated in their group and beating Golden Guardians and Cloud9 in the playoffs. In the finals, Evil Geniuses faced Team Liquid, who overcame them 3-0.
Evil Geniuses was considered one of the best teams in the league, but three weeks later they found themselves in 8th place. In the second half of the split, the team performed much better, finishing in 4th place with a score of 9-9 and securing a spot in the top playoff. Evil Geniuses lost by a narrow margin to Team Liquid in the 5 games series, leaving EG relegated to the losers' draw. From there, they knocked out FlyQuest 3-1, Cloud9 3-0, Team Liquid 3-0 and eventually 100 Thieves 3-0 in the grand final to become the 5th team to ever win the LCS championship. They also earned a slot at MSI 2022. The MSI itself for Evil Geniuses has turned out pretty well. Coming out of the group in second place, EG began to battle it out in the Rumble stage, which they had already finished in fourth place. After losing to Royal Never Give Up 3-0 in the semifinals, Evil Geniuses went home, finishing 3-4 at MSI 2022.
CLG: Going Lower and Lower
CLG started this split pretty confidently, having beaten Dignitas in the first day, Counter Logic Gaming set up to play well this super week. The second game day, albeit with problems, went into CLG's winnings by beating TSM. The third day continued the guys' winning streak. Golden Guardians tried to do something, but it wasn't enough. At the end of the first week, Counter Logic Gaming went 3-0, which was very good. The second week started less well than the first. In the opening match CLG lost to FlyQuest, thereby ending their series. On the second game day the guys in a tense encounter defeated Evil Geniuses, thus remaining in first place in the overall standings. At the beginning of the week CLG lost to Cloud9 with not the most pleasant draft, which dropped them from first place overall immediately to third. At the end of the week, CLG faced Team Liquid, who dropped their opponents even lower in the overall standings. Week 4 began with a victory for the guys against the Immortals, but ended in defeat against 100 Thieves, thereby CLG now disputes the fourth place in the overall standings with FlyQuest. Today CLG will meet Evil Geniuses, which will be very difficult to win over.
Counter Logic Gaming, CLG, is a recognized professional gaming organization whose teams compete at the highest level around the world. They are known for their League of Legends team, which is the oldest existing one. Counter Logic Gaming was created as a League of Legends team on April 16, 2010 by George "HotshotGG" Georgalidis after parting ways with his former team due to internal disagreements. While the original League of Legends team consisted of a total of ten players, their starting lineup of five soon formed, consisting of HotshotGG, bigfatlp, Kobe, Chauster and Elementz. Since then, Counter Logic Gaming has won 2 NA LCS titles, 2 regional tournaments, and finished second from MSI.
The CLG failed the spring split, finishing in eighth place, with a score of 6-12. Before the summer split, the organization decided to replace only their topliner.
