The International 2022
Group Stage
Fnatic vs Thunder Awaken
Format: BO2
15.10.2022 11:00 (UTC+3)From October 15 to 30, Singapore will host The International 11. At the biggest eSports tournament of the year, twenty teams will battle for the right to raise Aegis over their heads. Teams have been coming to this event throughout the year, participating in regional DPC leagues and majors, so only the strongest representatives from their locations have come to Singapore. But only one group of five players would make their dream come true and write their names in the history of The International tournaments.
In the midst of the group series, Fnatic and Thunder Awaken will meet face-to-face. Will any of the teams be able to get two valuable points? Or will the teams play a draw?

For a team from Southeast Asia, the very act of qualifying for The International could make for a documentary in its own right. After the Arlington Major, Fnatic was 0.05 points behind in the DPC rankings, but due to re-calculations by Valve, they moved up to 12th place and won their last trip to TI11. The organization manager probably still can't believe that outcome.
It's hard to judge the team's results. At the PGL Arlinghton Major 2022, the team consisted of half of Team SoloMid FTX players. In the regular DPC leagues it was consistently regarded as a favorite and got a slot in the major, but the level of competition in the region allowed it to do so at half its potential. However, at the first major in 2022 in Stockholm, the team made it to the top-8. And at ESL One Malaysia 2022 they even made it to the top of the playoffs and made it to the top-4.
In terms of names, the roster turned out to be quite strong. Raven still keeps up the standard at the carry position, and Dj is in good shape as well as he is at the fourth position. Jabz is captaining here from the offline, and he hasn't played only center linebacker in his career now. And even with such an experienced set of players, the team is hectic at any level of tournaments. At the last BTS Pro Series Season 12: Southeast Asia event, the team lost in the playoffs first to Execration and then to Hokori without winning a single map. The fiasco against the tier-2 teams makes you think that you can expect anything from Fnatic: victories against the favorites as well as defeats at the hands of the obvious underdogs.
Thunder Awaken will definitely be an awkward matchup
The Peruvians renewed themselves after TI10, and with this roster they cemented their title as the "best team in South America". In all three DPC leagues, the team has won all three, losing only one series. In the majors, however, things aren't going so well. In Arlington, Thunder Awaken tried to put up a fight, but it was not enough to reach the lower bracket. At the Stokholm major in May, the lineup played well in the group stage, and a win over BetBoom Team in the first round of the upper bracket ensured a top-6 finish. At ESL One Malaysia, the team also finished in the top-6, beating Nigma Galaxy along the way.
Thunder Awaken has the worst statistics in the last three international tournaments. Players rack up just over 2,000 gold per minute per team, dying more often (29 per map) than killing (25 per map). But all the numbers are crushed by the unpredictable behavior of Peruvians in the game. Carry Pakarz can rack up 30 fractions against Entity, before screwing up on Monkey King with a KDA of 4/12/6. Thunder Awaken can lead by 15 for thousands, but can easily give it to his opponent in one game. And can just as easily flounder out of an impossible state.
But, given that the same unpredictable team will play against the South Americans in this series, the team here will try to get at least one point. Judging by the balance of power in Group B, Thunder Awaken is well-positioned to win a slot in the lower bracket of the playoffs at The International 11, and a head-to-head series against Fnatic could add to their points tally.
