PSG.LGD is approaching the next The International again as a favorite but no longer a unanimous choice. The reason for that is the defeat of the Chinese in the final of the American major. The xiao8 squad once again showed that they were ready to smash everyone on their way to the finals, but their great game disappeared somewhere in the decisive match.
After the summer majors, PSG.LGD teams did not play anywhere and systematically prepared for this start. Many say that the Chinese played poorly at the test games in Singapore, but we have to understand that the guys didn't fall through the cracks, and xiao8 came to TI11 with a series of blanks that will be shown already in the group stage. We are not sure that the match with Hokori will deliver anything because the opponent is five goals lower regarding the performers' skill.
In my opinion, PSG.LGD is now the most stable team in the world if it is motivated and not playing in the finals of international events. It is worth realizing that the team xiao8 won the first and second DPC league in China, and both regional finals Valve organized for the Chinese region instead of the majors. In the summer tour, the team relaxed because the main task was completed ahead of schedule.
Hokori: a Tough Opponent to Debut
Peruvian team Hokori will debut in the main tournament of this cyber sports discipline. It came as a big surprise that Hokori was the team to qualify directly for TI11 through regional qualification. As LCQ qualification showed, South American teams look very weak compared to the rest of the world, especially the Chinese favorites.
It is worth realizing that this Peruvian team is only in its third year, and it does not have big wins. This DPC cycle they conclude with mixed success. In all three rounds of the regional DPC league, the Hokori team has played in the elite cohort. The players settled for sixth place in winter, climbed to third place in spring and were close to qualifying for the majors, and took last place in summer and dropped out of the elite, but that's not what matters now.
In July, the team strengthened and got two replacements. Lumière, who played for Infinity and Infamous this year, was added to the first position. It is noteworthy that this Peruvian played for Hokori in 2020 and started the winning streak for that team, and now he is back and helped the team qualify for The International for the first time. The position of four was filled by Thiolicor, a Brazilian player who played on the Peruvian team from February to June, but after failing in the regional league he was kicked and apparently not having found a decent replacement - called up again before the regional qualifications for TI11.
An important success for Hokori was winning the regional qualification, and in Singapore the Peruvian team managed to play in season 12 of the BTS tournament, but already in the Asian region and among the teams from Southeast Asia, the Peruvians finished in third place. But at The International 2022 we do not believe in this team, they are too weak playing South American teams, especially the debutants of such huge events.
