Last year's The International 2021 was a flop for the Evil Geniuses organization, which had placed 9th-12th at the main Doter event only once before, in 2017.
In the 2021/22 DPC cycle, Evil Geniuses played in a revamped lineup, most notably VP Nightfall, who moved to the third position on the American team and adjusted to his new role throughout the long season. The legendary JerAx was in EG for almost the entire cycle as a five, but all the failures of this team were blamed on him and returned Fly, a rested and very familiar captain to most of this squad, to the five positions.
And the results were really unfortunate. Evil Geniuses won some regional leagues (unless you count the first winter league, where the team finished third). It was quite uncertain, so it's hard to call EG players the undisputed kings of North America. Problems occurred in the region, and on the international stage, Evil Geniuses' results were simply abysmal.
Evil Geniuses" should urgently forget the majors in Sweden, where they became the worst team in the world, if you don't take into account the Mind Games players who didn't make it to Stockholm at all. At their home major, the result was no better - 9-12th place. Only by a miracle did Evil Geniuses get a direct pass to TI11, avoiding regional qualification. But unless they prepared something special, their path in Singapore will not last long.
Soniqs: Tough Opponent at the Start
Soniqs in the former Quincy Crew team that won the first North American Regional this DPC cycle 2021/22. They were the most outraged about the cancellation of the first major, which was no surprise since they became the strongest team in North America and should have been preparing for the playoffs in the majors, but ended up with another four-team regional showdown. So the players did fail at was the regional finals, becoming only the third team in their region to receive no extra DPC points. Whether that was the result of a reluctance to play after the cancellation is possible, but in the second DPC league the guys blew the replay. With 6 wins and only 1 loss, the Quincy Crew was forced into replay, fell and missed a major.
In the new summer tour, the team was once again formed around the first and second playing position, Quinn and YawaR, joined from Alliance by Brazilian carry LESLÃO, with MSS and Fata as the supports. Quincy Crew is still a formidable force, the team was second in the summer tour, so the American squad will perform for the home audience. The main thing is to have something to show and not to fail miserably.
The American major was the only international tournament where Quincy Crew played before TI11. It was a shame to lose the qualification for ESL One Malaysia 2022 (2:3) to TSM, but it is important that Soniqs team won the regional qualification for TI11 without much trouble.
