Near the end of the group stage, BOOM Esports found their game. The Asians gave battle to Team Aster (1-1) and Team Spirit (1-1), and also defeated Natus Vincere (2-0). Although there were openly failed games, but that was at the start of the group stage. Will BOOM Esports players be able to withstand the incredible PSG.LGD? Theoretically, they can, but in practice, it is extremely unlikely.
BOOM Esports is the best team in Southeast Asia in this DPC cycle. This team just finished all three DPC leagues in an awesome fashion: championship in the first winter round, in the third summer round and vice-champion in the second spring round. Add winning the winter regional finals instead of the major and you get over 1,100 DPC points, which pretty much guarantees the guys a TI11 appearance.
It was strange not to see the team at the Riyadh Masters 2022, considering that BOOM Esports won the previous tournament in the UAE called GAMERS GALAXY: Invitational Series Dubai 2022, but note that the past few days ago the Masters did not include any Asian team, except Deboosters, and that host team was assembled from hodgepodge and was only an extra for world leaders. It's a shame, BOOM players could have put on a real show in a $4,000,000 million tournament, which the Arabs couldn't do.
Before the major started, BOOM Esports earned a win in qualifying for August home tournament, ESL One Malaysia 2022.
Team Liquid: no margin for error
The European team is feverish, not doing very well for the second major in a row. Team Liquid players only defeated their opponents from Soniqs (2-0), which does not yet show the true strength of this team. On top of that, they have five draws with the Outsiders, OG, Thunder Awaken, Talon Esports, and RNG. The Europeans made the playoffs, but it seems impossible for them to make no mistakes in the lower bracket. It will also be no surprise if they have to pack up as early as today.
Team Liquid has been doing well throughout the 2021/22 DPC cycle in Europe. The team secured a title on the winter tour, also finishing second in the regional winter finals, which drew extra DPC points, instead of the first cancelled major. In the spring, Liquid finished third in the regional league and went to the major to put up a mediocre performance, placing 9-12. Due to their failure at the major, the European team had to try to perform well in the regional league Summer Tour. And Team Liquid managed to do this, taking second place and getting a ticket to the August Major in the U.S.
At the Riyadh Masters 2022 at the end of July, the European team played with a substitute. The mighty Ana replaced MATUMBAMAN. Why the Finn didn't go to the UAE with the team is unknown, but it was much more important for Team Liquid to get their main player to the USA.
