This Valorant Champions Tour season was a complete failure for the German organization. The squad failed to reach the main stage of the European region even once. In October 2021, the organization replaced two players and the head coach, after which BIG started with new colors. By the end of 2021, the squad finished in 3rd place at Kingdom Calling 5 and 6 and FEL Valorant Cup #3. The team also competed at Red Bull Home Groud #2 but failed to make it out of the group.
The Germans started the new season with open qualifications, where they have already shown their strength by knocking out such teams as Case Esports and LDN UTD. Having qualified for the European qualification's main stage, BIG started beating their opponents confidently until Team Vitality sent them to the lower bracket. In the relegation round, the German side dealt their opponents just one map and took revenge on Team Vitality in the relegation round with a 3-0 win, earning them a ticket to the EMEA stage. The EMEA stage itself was a failure for BIG. The Germans didn't manage to pick up a single map going into the Promotion phase, where they had to fight with the other teams for two slots in the next EMEA stage. BIG got off to a rocky start, losing to the Germans from FOKUS in the upper bracket. However, they beat the Turks from Surreal Esports 3-0 on maps in the lower bracket, thus advancing to the EMEA stage. Before the start of the tournament, BIG management announced that Kaspe and gob b would leave the organization to be replaced by musashi and luckeRRR, who will try to save the organization from a second failure this year. Their first opponent was Team Liquid, who beat BIG without much trouble with 13:5 on the first map and 13:7 on the second map. This week, BIG will face Guild Esports, who showed good play in the first week by beating M3 Champions.
Guild Esports: Great start but terrible finish
Guild Esports' journey throughout the Valorant Champions Tour was close to major tournaments, but they were always stopped in their final moments. The toughest defeat was in the EMEA Last Chance Qualifier final, where the Swedish squad lost their last chance at the Valorant Champions. Had the organization's bosses decided to keep the squad, they would have got a direct ticket to the indoor qualifiers. Still, they took the risk and made 3 substitutions, taking koldamenta, trexx and Russ into their lineup.
This squad did not lose a single map after the first six matches of the open qualification. The maximum number of rounds their opponents were able to take was eight. On the way to the closed qualifications, Guild Esports sent home such teams like CGN Esports and Anonymo Esports. In the course of the already closed qualifications, the squad was only able to give up one map, qualifying for the upper bracket for the EMEA stage from the first time. However, in the EMEA Challengers stage itself, this squad is doing just fine. In the opening match against BBL Esports, the defeat and a tough victory against the reigning world champions Acend. The Turkish organization has already shown that they are not ready for Europe, and then their Guild is in incredible shape, but the match was close and interesting. And that's when the first bells went off in the Guild game. Next was a match against G2 Esports. Just then, this squad received the first defeat at this tournament, and the next week a less offensive but still a defeat by Fnatic sent Guild Esports to 3 place in the group. First, the loaded lineup for the playoffs met M3 Champions, losing 2-0. Team Liquid repeated the previous meeting in the lower bracket, also beating Guild Esports 2-0, thus sending Guild Esports to rest until the next stage.
This time the group for Guild Esports was not too difficult, where they could resist only M3 Champions and Team Liquid. Still, in the opening match Guild Esports beat M3 Champions 2-0 on maps thereby strengthening their position in the group. Guild Esports will have to play against BIG this week, which does not look like a serious problem for the boys.
