Michael van Gerwen’s winning spell: will it continue?
It seems that Mighty Mike is on a roll these days! He managed to have a successive second victory in Brighton on Thursday, where he defeated Michael Smith by 6-4, in a thrilling match after his Exeter’s success.
Dart enthusiasts dub the match as the best final of any darts competition so far as both players managed to get an average of over 100. However, Van Gerwan gave a winning performance from the get-go by establishing a 4-1 lead, which Smith could not catch up to.
About his current performance, Michael van Gerwen said. "I feel good, and I feel comfortable on stage at the moment, I know what I'm capable of, but sometimes you have to give yourself a bit of time to show it.”
Commenting on his current ranking, he added, "It's always a good feeling to be top of the table. It gives you confidence.
Gerwyn Price’s unfortunate injury; can The Iceman recover in style?
The Iceman’s absence was felt immensely last week when he had to forfeit from the tournament because of a hand injury.
He clarified the reason for his injury by saying, "I apologize to everyone; this wasn't the easiest decision. I have done everything I can to get my injury right before I play but unfortunately, a few days rest for me, just to clarify that my injury was an accident and nothing to do with my charity boxing training."
Not only did this prove to be ideal for Joe Cullen, who went into the semi-finals without having to compete, but it was also great for Michael van Gerwen – his upcoming rival.
Why? This is because he didn’t have his match with van Gerwen who became the first player to win consecutively in the completion.
Now, with Price resuming his dart journey with Thursday’s match. But, the question remains – has his hand recovered enough to parallel the stellar performance of the Mighty Mike?
Expert Betting Tips
It seems highly likely that Michael van Gerwen will be adding yet another win to his name. Keeping in mind Price’s recent injury and van Gerwen’s current unbeatable performance, it is highly likely that while the match will be a thrilling one to watch, it will be titled towards Van Gerwan from early on.
