Anderson entered the 2021 PDC World Darts Championship as the thirteenth seed, and following an opening win over Madars Razma, he downplayed his prospects of a third world championship, calling 2019 and 2020 "rotten." Anderson defeated Mensur Suljovi 4–3 in a contentious match, blaming his opponent for gamesmanship. Anderson then defeated Devon Petersen to get to his sixth PDC World Championship semi-final. In the quarter-finals, Dirk van Duijvenbode won the first set against Anderson, but Anderson turned the game around with a run of eleven legs in a row to win the match 5–1.
Anderson defeated Dave Chisnall 6–3 in the semi-finals to advance to his sixth World Championship final and set up a rematch of the contentious 2018 Grand Slam of Darts final versus Gerwyn Price. Anderson went on to lose the game 7–3 against Price in the final. He was eliminated in the second round of the World Matchplay by Nathan Aspinall.
James Wade – The Machine
In the second round, James started his 2022 PDC World Darts Championship campaign with a 3–1 victory over Maik Kuivenhoven. James went on to reach the Semi-Finals for the first time since 2013, defeating Martijn Kleermaker and Mervyn King before falling to Michael Smith 6-3. In 2022, James will compete in his 12th Premier League Darts season, trailing only Phil Taylor and Raymond van Barneveld. Wade defeated Gerwyn Price 6-3 on opening night in Cardiff before falling to Jonny Clayton 4-6.
