After a tough run in the Test series, Pakistan reversed their fortunes with a format change. Babar Azam's men trounced the Black Caps by six wickets on Monday, January 9, to take a 1-0 lead in the match. For his five-wicket haul, Naseem Shah was named Player of the Match.
Shah also became the 12th bowler and sixth Pakistani to record back-to-back five-wicket hauls in one-day internationals. Pakistan limited the Kiwis to 255/9 as a result of his stint. Michael Bracewell and Tom Latham both scored 43 and 42 runs.
New Zealand
New Zealand's batting let them down in the first ODI. On an excellent batting surface in Karachi, the visitors could only manage 255 runs. None of the top-order batters were able to get going. With each defeat, pressure mounts on Finn Allan, who has yet to break through in ODIs. Williamson has also been inconsistent in the 5o-over format. New Zealand will hope for a stronger batting performance in the second ODI.
Expert Betting Tips
Despite their struggles in Test cricket, Pakistan has remained a competitive squad in One-Day Internationals. The hosts were quite clinical in the first match of the series and will be favored to win the second match as well.
The Black Caps haven't won an ODI in Pakistan since 1996, and that doesn't appear to be changing on Wednesday.
