England Domestic One-Day Cup: Match 10
Stadium: John Fretwell Sporting Complex
26th July, 2024
Nottinghamshire and Sussex will face off against each other in the Match 10 of England Domestic One-Day Cup at John Fretwell Sporting Complex on 26th July 2024. Nottinghamshire lost their first game of the season. Who will win this game of cricket?
Nottinghamshire form
Having lost in their opening game of the season, Nottinghamshire aims to rebound as they take on Sussex. The bowling unit didn't have a great day in the last game in which they conceded 369 runs in the first innings while defending an invitation to bowl. Rain interference saw Nottinghamshire set for a chase of 105 runs in 14 overs in the game. They could only reach 89 for 6. So, Freddie McCann and Ben Slater opened the batting for Nottinghamshire with McCann, a quite young addition to the team, only 19 this year, sent in to open the batting. Haseeb Hameed, the captain of the team, didn't get to bat in the rain-affected chase. This will boil down to building partnerships to seal the victories for Nottinghamshire, something shown by Matthew Montgomery in his solo effort in a match last year. Jack Haynes, Lyndon James, and Haseeb Hameed are players who will need to lift their game and put in a good performance. Though James was the highest wicket-taker, he was expensive with the ball and the team will look for better performance from him.
Nottinghamshire Predicted Lineup
Ben Slater, Freddie McCann, Jack Haynes, Haseeb Hameed (c), Matthew Montgomery, Lyndon James, Tom Moores (wk), Liam Patterson-White, Luke Fletcher, Robert Lord, Farhan Ahmed
Sussex form
Sussex are looking for a clean slate after the disappointing performance in the previous season where they ended up at the bottom of the points table with just a single win. The batting had some promising players, too, in Harrison Ward, skipper Tom Haines, and, potentially, Cheteshwar Pujara, but none of them lived up to expectations. The top order will revolve around Ward, Haines, and Pujara, and if they don't click, then Sussex might find it tough. Tom Aslop and James Coles are relatively reliable customers in the middle order, but a good start at the top is a prerequisite. D Ibrahim, who wasn't in the initial squad and was later drafted into the playing XI, did show a lot of promise in the lower middle order. Sussex has a very deep batting lineup, and they should have the belief in themselves to chase down 250+ runs or post 300+ runs if they bat first. Aristides Karvelas and Danial Ibrahim are two crucial bowlers to watch out for in this team's bowling attack.
Predicted Lineup of Sussex
Tom Haines, Harrison Ward, Tom Alsop, Cheteshwar Pujara, James Coles, Danial Ibrahim, Oliver Carter, Bertie Foreman, Sean Hunt, Henry Crocombe, Aristides Karvelas
Nottinghamshire vs Sussex Expert Tips & Prediction
This game should be a great competitive contest between two relatively weak teams. On the other hand, Notts' bowlers really need to redeem their recent performance, and this should be a great opportunity to do so. It really becomes tough to call between the two, with both teams having strong lineups in terms of batting. In any case, Nottinghamshire shall have an edge, although thin, due to their squad depth, making them our match prediction favorite for the win.
