Derbyshire kicked off the new season with an impressive two-wicket victory over Northamptonshire. Although the target was demanding, 236, set in Northampton, at one time Derbyshire were in a precarious position, bowled out for 79-7. What followed then was an incredible turnaround steered by Ross Whiteley and Zak Chappell, who blitzed 94 off 87 balls as Derbyshire crossed the finish line with eight balls to spare. In the upcoming match, much support will be needed from Luis Reece and Harry Came of Derbyshire—independent top run scorers of the team in the previous season, both scoring in excess of 300 runs. Brooke Guest and David Lloyd have also turned up good for Derbyshire to make them the ones to watch out for in this game. Zak Chappell did well in his turn with the ball against Northamptonshire; with figures of 4-39 off his ten overs, he will be a valuable asset with the ball. Along with him, Samuel Conners, who topped the wickets charts for Derbyshire last year, will hope to play a vital role with the new ball.
Derbyshire Predicted Lineup
Luis Reece, Harry Came, Brooke Guest wk, David Lloyd, Matthew Lamb, Samit Patel c, Ross Whiteley, Mitchell Wagstaff, Zak Chappell, Harry Moore, Samuel Conners
Middlesex form
It's what the Middlesex bowlers had to put up with, a 371-run shipment with the ball in the first game against Worcestershire in the opening round, only for their batsmen to come out and making 188. There was little that went correctly for Middlesex, but they do have a strong batting lineup. Joe Cracknell was the top scorer for Middlesex last season. He is, however, expected to come back into action in the upcoming match even though he did not come good in the first game.
Captain Mark Stoneman did make a statement of sorts in the previous game when he knocked 75 runs off 37 balls at a quick pace. Along with him, he was among runs last year too, so that should mean he is in decent form for this season. The bowling department didn't fare too well against Worcestershire and would look to do things different in this game. Ethan Bamber and leg-spinner Luke Hollman appear to be the two men calling the shots in the bowling department. Bamber was Middlesex's leading bowler in the One-Day Cup last season, while Hollman showed some promise in the final match.
Middlesex Predicted Lineup
Joe Cracknell, Sam Robson, Nathan Fernandes, Mark Stoneman, Jack Davies, Martin Andersson, Luke Hollman, Henry Brookes, Ethan Bamber, Noah Cornwell, Blake Cullen
