Australia had already qualified for the Super 12 stage T20 World Cup 2022 based on their points table ranking, but Sri Lanka had to work their way into the second round after topping the Group A points table in the first round. The Aaron Finch-led team will now seek atonement and hope to open their account in the competition.
In Australia's opening game against last year's finalists New Zealand, Kane Williamson's team batted first and scored a massive 200/3. Given Australia's batting lineup, it appeared like they would chase it down, but the Kiwi bowlers delivered a nightmare, dismissing Australia for 111 runs throughout the chase.
Sri Lanka
In the game versus Ireland, Sri Lanka, on the other hand, bowled first. The bowlers did an outstanding job, limiting the Irish hitters to a par total of 128/8 in 20 overs. In response, Sri Lanka's top order batsmen executed a great chase and hammered the Irish spinners. While Kusal Mendis stayed undefeated on 43 balls for 68, Dhananjaya de Silva and Charith Asalanka both scored 31 runs as Sri Lanka triumphed by nine wickets.
The two sides last clashed earlier this year when Australia visited Sri Lanka for a multi-format series. The tour included three T20Is, five ODIs, and two Test matches. While Australia won the T20I series 2-1, Sri Lanka made history by defeating a full-member Australian team in the ODI series by a score of 3-2. It was an exciting series, and supporters have high hopes for the forthcoming game.

In the t20 format, Australia is brimming with both experienced and inexperienced players. The batting order of this side is also good, and some well-known t20 hitters are part of the group, therefore Australia's prospects of winning today's match have improved.
