The Lakers have been quite happy with their results: they've suffered only four losses in 17 games, two against Memphis. What's important is that they've built up some margin of safety. In addition to LeBron James and Anthony Davis, the club has someone to rely on. Rui Hachimura has a great playoff run, averaging 16.2 points and 56.6% from the field. Austin Reaves is becoming a full-fledged 3rd option on the offensive end, but D'Angelo Russell could be more helpful. There are questions about Dennis Schroder since he and Russell can only help out sometimes. LeBron's long-range shooting is poor (16.7 percent), although he's averaging over seven attempts per game. The Lakers are just 14th in the current playoffs in field-goal percentage, ahead of Sacramento and New York.
In his last meeting with Memphis, LeBron again missed many shots and averaged 25.6% of three-pointers, making it impossible to expect to win. The final score was 99-116. This time the best player for LA was Anthony Davis, who has been much less efficient in past games. Davis made 14 of 23 shots from the field and scored 31 points. Dennis Schroder, Troy Brown, and Malik Beasley, who came off the bench, produced a -20 efficiency rating or lower, although all three didn't spend that much time on the floor.
Memphis
The Grizzlies have trouble reaching their full playoff potential because of big-man injuries. Xavier Tillman is now replacing Brandon Clark, while Jaren Jackson Jr. seems a more logical alternative to Steven Adams. In the series with the Lakers, Triple J has a great defense against Anthony Davis, but things aren't perfect in the offense. Dillon Brooks on offense is also far from perfect, and the most helpful role players are Luke Kennard and the same Xavier Tillman.
Desmond Bain and Jah Morant finally had a bright game simultaneously, and their combined 64 points allowed Memphis to extend its streak with the Lakers. Bain was the highest scorer on the team, hitting 12-of-21 shots, while Moreant was 13-of-26 from the field. Jaren Jackson Jr. also looked solid on the offensive end, while Dillon Brooks was in regular foul trouble. Taylor Jenkins outscored his opponent from beyond the arc while his two-point shooting was roughly tied.
Expert Betting Tips
From the looks of the game, the opponents are pretty even. Both are somewhat shuffled, but Memphis is more well-played. Game 3 of the series was the Lakers' best performance of the current playoffs, but since then, they have failed to build on what they have already achieved. The Grizzlies basketball players are gradually peaking, with Morant, Bane, and Jackson already looking more confident in the last meeting. If Brooks steps up, their chances of success should improve.
