Philadelphia vs New York Mets: Will the Phillies beat division rival again?

Philadelphia had a terrific first game of their home series with the New York Mets. The Phillies, trailing 0-4 by the 8th inning, managed to turn the tide and pull out a 5-4 victory. Will the psychological advantage gained from the comeback help the Phillies clinch the second game of the series as well? We'll pick a few bets at once.

Philadelphia showed character

The 2022 championship has just begun, so the Phillies' win over the Mets could well be considered their best comeback performance of the season so far. Philadelphia scored all five of its runs in the eighth inning. Catcher J.T. Realmuto hit a double home run and Kyle Schwarber, Rhys Hoskins, and Didi Gregorius each had an RBI and a run-scoring double. Philadelphia's starting pitcher for the second game against the Mets is Zack Wheeler, one of the best pitchers in modern MLB. The 31-year-old starter finished last season with a 2.78 ERA, 247 strikeouts, a 14-10 win-loss balance in 32 starts, and second in the National League Cy Young voting. Wheeler was prevented from taking the prestigious award by Milwaukee's Corbin Burnes.

Mets run true to form

The New York Mets' 4-0 defeat in the eighth inning isn't at all surprising. The team has probably accustomed everyone to its failures by now. Year after year, the organization, signing all sorts of superstars, tries to get back into contention. However, other than a big loss (in five games) in the 2015 World Series to the Kansas City Royals, the team has failed to accomplish anything in the last two decades. The Mets entered the new season with a new manager, Buck Showalter. Will the experienced 65-year-old specialist be able to take the Mets to the next level? In the first series of the season, New York went 2-1 on the road against Washington (7-3, 5-0, and 2-4).

The starting pitcher for the New York Mets in game two will be Tylor Megill, a reliever who has been reassigned as a starter and is essentially filling in for the injured Jacob deGrom. Megill has already made his debut this season, throwing five innings in the first game against Washington (7-3). The 26-year-old pitcher worked scoreless innings, pitched five strikeouts, and added his first win of the 2022 championship to his resume.

Expert Betting Tips

It's unlikely that Philadelphia's comeback will go without a trace for the Mets. New York got a serious shake-up and may not recover from it by the start of Game 2. Plus, the Mets will have to start against Zack Wheeler, one of the best pitchers in the business. The Phillies simply have to take advantage of the psychological advantage and beat their division rival again.
