In what has been the most underwhelming effort by Zimbabwe women batters ever since the start of their busy cricket schedule this year, the team folded for a mere 48 runs and lost to Bangladesh in an embarrassing fashion. Zimbabwe is set to host Women’s World Cup Qualifiers in two weeks so time is ticking right now and the team can’t afford such collapses.
What just happened there Zimbabwe?
Zimbabwe had no chance batting-wise. The team has done well recently against squads like Ireland and Thailand but got blown away by Bangladesh bowlers. The highest score came from Precious Marange who made a paltry 17 runs and the rest of the batters couldn’t even get to double figures. Jahanara Alam, Salma Khatun, and Nahida Akhter took three wickets each while Ritu Moni took the other wicket.
As easy it gets for Bangladesh batters
Despite losing two wickets for 21 runs, the lack of scoreboard pressure meant that the Bangladeshi batters got home easily. Fargana Hoque’s 11 runs and Rumana Ahmed’s 16 runs saw the team through with a whopping 40 overs to go. It is safe to assume that Zimbabwe will not fold like this again considering they are playing at home and with a talented batting line-up, are these alarming signs?
