Sydney Thunder’s season took another hit when Brisbane Heat beat them by five wickets and ten balls to spare. After batting first, Thunder put up 143 but the Heat team didn’t fret and chased the target down comfortably in the end.
Hot start for Thunder but Yadav clasps momentum
Thunder did lose Tahlia Wilson early but opener Smriti Mandhana and Phoebe Litchfield combined to put up a terrific start. The duo made 39 runs in 28 balls but Poonam Yadav first removed a high-flying Mandhana who made 37 runs in just 24 balls and then she got rid of in-form Litchfield who made 40 runs in 32 balls. Skipper Hannah Darlington’s late 15-ball 19 runs couldn’t get the team to 150 as Yadav finished with impressive figures of 3 wickets for 17 runs in her four overs.
The Redmayne Show
Uncharacteristically, Grace Harris fell early but that didn’t deter Georgia Redmayne’s confidence even a bit. First, a 41 runs partnership with Georgia Voll and then a 59 runs bond with Mikayla Hinkley propelled the Heat past Thunder Voll, Mikayla, and Georgia kept the tempo up. Redmayne made 57 off 45 balls, Voll made 25 off 21 deliveries while Mikayla Hinkley made 33 runs in 25 balls. Laura Kimmince’s one six and one four sealed the deal despite a late wobble.
