The 2020 Tokyo Olympics came to a thrilling end as the USA barely managed to escape with most gold medals. The USA had a terrific final day as they claimed gold medals in basketball and volleyball. China led the gold medal count up until the final day as the USA edged them by one more medal.
The USA ended up with 113 medals in total, hoarding 39 gold, 41 silver, and 33 bronze medals. Meanwhile China finished in second place with 38 gold medals and finished with 88 medals overall. The host Japan claimed the third place in the tally as they bagged 27 gold medals. The 2024 Olympics will be held in Paris.
