US Open: Emma Raducanu ends Britain's 44-year-old drought with title

Emma Raducanu’s US Open journey saw a fairy-tail end as she prevailed over fellow teenager Leylah Fernandez. Emma continued her streak of winning in two sets and pulled through in the Final with a 6-4, 6-3 win. Even though Fernandez didn’t capture the title, she also had a remarkable run beating the likes of Osaka, Kerber, Svitolina, and Sabalenka to reach the finals with all the games going to the third set.

Leylah wished she bagged her fifth third-set game in a row and Emma finished the tournament, taking care of the business in all games without going to a third set. In the final game, Leylah committed five double-faults, earned only 28 receiving points compared to Raducanu’s 38, however, kept it close on the service points, bagging 40 of them compared to Emma’s 43 points. Emma’s title is the first for a British woman in the last 44 years making it a historical run for more than one reason.
