World No. 1 Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner has expressed that he is facing significant challenges after the announcement of his positive doping tests.
Sinner remarked in an interview with ESPN:
A lot of weight from my shoulders is gone.. I wish no other player has to go through this. I also hope people understand why they let me keep playing.
In August 2024, the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) revealed that the tennis player had tested positive for doping twice in March of this year. However, he avoided disqualification since the samples were contaminated by a spray used by his physiotherapist for treating a cut on his finger.
Sinner is a Grand Slam singles champion, winner of 16 ATP tournaments, Next Generation ATP Finals champion, and a 2023 Davis Cup holder.
