Former world number one Maria Sharapova was present at the ceremony unveiling the star of legendary American tennis player Billie Jean King on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Billie Jean King, a winner of 39 Grand Slam tournaments (12 singles, 16 doubles, and 11 mixed), became the first woman to receive a star in the newly created sports entertainment category, established by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce in 2021 to honor those who have made significant contributions to entertainment through sports.
It's worth noting that, in addition to Sharapova, basketball Hall of Famer Magic Johnson and Oscar-winning actress Jamie Lee Curtis also attended the ceremony to show their support for Billie Jean King.
The 37-year-old Sharapova is a five-time Grand Slam champion, has won 39 WTA titles, and was a silver medalist in singles at the 2012 Olympic Games.
On February 26, 2020, she announced her retirement from professional tennis.
