Russian Andrey Rublev, the fifth-ranked player in the world according to the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), spoke about his emotional outburst on the court.
In a match at the Final Tournament in Turin a few weeks ago, the Russian tennis player hit himself several times with a racket on his left leg and bashed his knee bloody.
Rublev told Championat:
I just desperately want to win, to show a good result. But unfortunately, sometimes it boils down to aggression. My expectations of myself trigger these emotions in me. And then there are resentments about myself.
In the season-2023 the Russian tennis player won the title at the ATP-250 tournament in Bostad and won the Masters in Monte Carlo. His best achievement at Grand Slam tournaments this year was quarterfinals at the Australian Open, Wimbledon and US Open.
Also at the ATP Tour Finals in Turin, Rublev insulted a fan who called for him to get it together. Australian tennis player Nick Kyrgios called the Russian's breakdown strange.
