Jessica Pegula provided a comedic highlight at the Miami Open after stealing Aryna Sabalenka's drink during a live interview. After the world No. 1 defeated her 7-5, 6-2 in the final, Pegula stole a sip of Sabalenka's signature Marg-Aryna cocktail before playfully running away.
After her loss, Pegula commented on the incident while on the Tennis Channel:
Jessica Pegula
I had to take something from her. She’s taken three first-place trophies from me. I know she’s also very outgoing and goofy, so I thought like it fit the moment. Wasn’t bad, had a nice tahini salt rim, that was nice, I enjoyed that.
Both players laughed at the moment, and Sabalenka was quickly given another drink.
As of now, Pegula is ranked world No. 4, while Sabalenka holds the top spot as world No. 1.
