Paula Badosa Withdraws from WTA 1000 Tournament in Wuhan Due to Gastroenteritis

Spanish tennis player Paula Badosa, currently ranked 15th in the world, has withdrawn from the WTA 1000 tournament in Wuhan, China due to gastroenteritis.

Originally set to face Australia’s Ajla Tomljanovic, who is ranked 86th, Badosa’s spot in the tournament will be filled by Italian player Lucia Bronzetti, entering as a lucky loser.

Recently, Badosa reached the semifinals at the Beijing tournament but lost to the future champion, American Coco Gauff. Additionally, Karolina Muchova, a finalist from the Beijing competition, has also withdrawn from the Wuhan event.

Earlier in October, Badosa got into a racist scandal.
