Novak Djokovic, a 24-time Grand Slam winner and the world's number one tennis player, won the prestigious Laureus World Sportsman of the Year which took place on April 22 in Madrid.
The Serbian tennis player beat out Argentine forward Lionel Messi, Manchester City striker Erling Haaland, and three-time Formula-1 champion Max Verstappen for the title of "Sportsman of the Year."
The list of contenders also included world pole vault record holder Armand Duplantis and track and field athlete Noah Lyles.
Djokovic won the “sports Oscar” for the fifth time in his career, having received the award in 2012, 2015, 2016, and 2019.
