Novak Djokovic Fails to Win a Grand Slam Title for the First Time Since 2017

World's second-ranked tennis player, Novak Djokovic, the reigning champion of the US Open, will finish the season without a Grand Slam title for the first time since 2017.

On August 31, the 37-year-old Serbian suffered a defeat in the third round of the US Open 2024, losing to Australian Alexei Popyrin (ranked 28th) with a score of 4-6, 4-6, 6-2, 4-6, thus failing to defend his title.

To recap, Djokovic lost in the final at Wimbledon 2024, was defeated in the semifinals at the Australian Open, and withdrew from the French Open quarterfinals due to an injury.

The US Open 2024 is taking place in New York from August 26 to September 8 and marks the final event in the Grand Slam calendar, concluding the tennis season.
