The International Tennis Federation (ITF) has declared Jannick Sinner, the leader of the men's world rankings, and Iga Swiatek, the second-ranked player in the women's singles, as 2024 world champions.
In the past season, the Italian tennis player won eight titles at ATP-level tournaments, including two Grand Slam tournaments (the Australian Open and the US Open), three Masters tournaments, and the ATP Finals 2024. Additionally, Jannick Sinner led the Italian team to victory in the 2024 Davis Cup.
In 2024, the Polish tennis player won one Grand Slam tournament – Roland Garros. Overall, she triumphed in five WTA tournaments last season. At the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, Iga Swiatek secured a bronze medal.
Recently, the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) revealed allegations against Iga Swiatek and Jannick Sinner for using banned substances.
However, both athletes managed to avoid long-term bans, as an independent body investigating violations in tennis did not find evidence of intentional use of prohibited drugs.
Earlier, the Polish tennis player spoke about the support she received from other athletes amid the scandal regarding her positive doping test.
