Fromer Italian tennis player and winner of four WTA singles tournaments Camila Giorgi is accused of stealing furniture and carpets from a rented villa in Florence, according to the publication Corriere della Serra.
As reported, the 32-year-old athlete, along with her family, did not pay rent for the rented accommodation for six months and took expensive Persian rugs and antique furniture when they left. The villa's owner estimates the damage caused by Giorgi to be between 50,000 and 100,000 euros.
On May 11, Giorgi, who was ranked 116th in the world rankings, announced the end of her professional career on her social media page. According to media reports, this decision might have been related to the tennis player's issues with the Italian tax authorities.
Giorgi's last match was in March 2024, in the second round of the WTA-1000 tournament in Miami, where she lost to the current world number one, Iga Swiatek, from Poland (1-6, 1-6). Her highest ranking was 26th place, achieved in October 2018.
