Djokovic Reveals Getting Poisoned in Melbourne Hotel after Arrest at AO 2022

Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic, a 24-time Grand Slam champion, revealed that during his detention at the Australian Open in 2022, he was served food that caused his sickness.

He stated that upon returning home, he began to experience health issues and realized that the food served at the hotel in Melbourne led to his poisoning. Upon returning to Serbia, he made several tests, which led to finding high levels of heavy metals—lead and mercury—in his body.

It was like the flu, just a simple flu. But when it was days after that a simple flu took me down so much.. I had that several times and then I had to do toxicology [tests].

The athlete also previously mentioned that he still experiences trauma from his deportation from Australia in 2022.

The 37-year-old Serbian has won 24 Grand Slam titles and 99 overall trophies in his career. He is currently ranked seventh in the world. Recently, it was announced that Andy Murray will be Djokovic's coach at the Australian Open 2025.
