Romanian tennis player and former world number one Simona Halep has been eliminated from the US Open due to a doping scandal, the Daily Mail reported.
According to the source, Halep was automatically suspended from the tournament a week before its start. The Romanian tennis player will be replaced by U.S. representative Taylor Townsend, who is ranked 134th in the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) rankings.
Halep was suspended in October 2022 due to an anti-doping violation. The athlete's test, which was taken during the US Open last year, came back positive for roxadustat. The athlete herself stated that she had never considered doping.
