The organizing committee for the Paris Olympic Games has announced the cancellation of the pre-race triathlon event due to poor water quality in river Seine, as reported by the organization's press service.
The organizing committee's statement
The organizing committee, the International Triathlon Union, and the local authorities jointly decided to cancel the swimming leg of the familiarisation triathlon because the water level did not provide sufficient guarantees.
The Olympic Games in the French capital are scheduled from July 26 to August 11.
Shortly before the competitions began, Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo, along with Tony Estanguet, head of the Games organizing committee, took a dip in the Seine to dispel rumors about the river's poor water quality.
French Sports Minister Amélie Oudéa-Castéra also participated in a swim in the Seine.
