Ski Star Jarl Magnus Riiber Retires Due to Crohn's Disease

Eight-time Nordic combined world champion Jarl Magnus Riiber from Norway has announced his retirement from professional sports due to a chronic illness.

The athlete said that this season will be his last, as he has been diagnosed with Crohn's disease, which he will have to live with for the rest of his life. Fortunately, he mentioned there are medications that help manage the condition.

Jarl Magnus Riiber for NRK
Injuries and illnesses have been a constant challenge throughout my career. Even when the results were good, I couldn’t feel the same joy. I believe now is the right time to retire while I’m at the peak of my career. I didn't want to risk another season.

The 27-year-old Riiber is also a silver medalist from the 2018 Olympics and a five-time World Cup winner. He holds the record for the most wins in World Cup events, with 71.
