Ppd: There's No Hype Around TI2024

Former esports athlete and winner of The International 2015, Peter "ppd" Dager, shared his insights with Telecomasia.net regarding the upcoming The International 13.

Dager believes that The International 13 will likely resemble past majors more than it traditionally has:

Considering the current situation, I expect a reduction in scale compared to the traditional TI events, especially outside of Seattle. This year's event may resemble majors we've seen in previous years. Nevertheless, I hope that PGL surprises us with some unique features that will make the event special.

He pointed out the reasons for the lack of the usual excitement leading up to The International 2024:

It's true that there's no hype around TI2024. Valve has never been strong at marketing, traditionally relying on Compendium to create hype. Without that, the lead-up to the event seems lame. Unfortunately, PGL is the only party interested in promoting the event, and they are not directly involved in the tournaments leading up to TI.

Ppd also suggested that The International's relocation from Seattle has impacted the tournament’s popularity:

The golden age of TI has declined since 2017, especially after the event moved from Seattle. It's unfortunate that TI has lost its former appeal, but perhaps it’s not so bad if Valve steps back from continuing the legacy.

The International is the premier Dota 2 tournament of 2024 and will take place from September 4 to 15 in Copenhagen, Denmark. The group stage is scheduled for September 4-5, with the first part of the main event running from September 6 to 10, and the final stage occurring from September 13 to 15. It’s worth noting that only the final stage of The International 13 will be held in front of a live audience.
