According to the France Press agency, the Paris Mint has received 220 requests for the replacement of medals from the 2024 Summer Olympics.
The Monnaie de Paris has replaced some of them and is continuing its replacement operation at the request of the athletes. We have done everything possible, from August 2024, to ensure the replacement of the medals concerned.
In January 2025, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced that "defective" medals would be replaced. The mint, however, prefers to refer to them as "damaged."
It is worth noting that many athletes returned over a hundred defective medals from the 2024 Olympics due to peeling coating. The complaints led to the dismissal of three employees from the Paris Mint.
The Olympic Games in Paris took place from July 26 to August 11.
Earlier, the National Olympic Committee of the Azerbaijani Republic contacted the IOC regarding the poor quality of the medals awarded to athletes at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
Additionally, French swimmers Yohann Ndoye-Brouard and Clément Secchi criticized the quality of the medals won by athletes at the 2024 Summer Games in Paris.
